NPAAMB has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Niagara and YMCA Niagara to provide a 25-week training
program for urban Indigenous youth in home construction. The Building Futures program integrates 17-weeks of
classroom based instruction and on-the-job skills development training, providing students with experience and
knowledge to create pathways to careers in building and construction trades.
During the on-site training, participants will be helping build a home from excavation to finishing. During the in-class portion of
the program the participants will be learning life skills, job readiness, essential skills and action planning. Opportunities to gain work
experience will occur with Habitat ReStore placements and through the 8-week work placements in their community in building and
construction trades. Each participant will have the opportunity to take what they learn in the Building Futures program and apply it to
build a safe and affordable Habitat Home for local Niagara families.
Every Tuesday, we have an Employment Services Specialist (from VPI, Goodwill or Mohawk College) available to everyone.
