ELATE III - Advanced Manufacturing Program

WHAT:

The training program will integrate essential employability skills (literacy, numeracy, problem solving, teamwork, personal effectiveness), with a solid foundation in transferable vocational skills. All participants will be provided with an electronic notebook to develop computer skills.

The 32 week program will include an additional 8 week internship that will provide the opportunity for employers to determine future employment potential. ‘Program graduates’ will emerge with a practical entry-level skill set that will position them well for continued employment in the manufacturing sector and will provide a foundation for continued training in an apprenticeship.

The program will cover the following fundamentals in manufacturing: Welding, Fluid Power, Electrical Basics, Machining, Health & Safety, Quality Concepts as well as Contextual Math and Communications.

WHO:

This work transition program will enhance employment potential for youth in Hamilton who may face barriers and are not entering into post-secondary programs, but are seeking employment.

Students must demonstrate a desire to succeed, show initiative and have ambition to earn a successful career, by their commitment to the program. In the application, candidates should outline their skills and attitudes that will contribute to their success in the program. Competency in mathematics will contribute to the successful completion of the academic portion of this program.

Up to 24 qualified candidates will be offered a position in the program.

WHEN:

Course starts May 9th, 2016  and runs until February 2017.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

1)  Interested participants are to submit a completed application form as well as a current resume and cover letter to the Industry-Education Council of Hamilton no later than April 8th, 2016. Submissions can be sent via fax at 905-529-5525, emailed to elate@iechamilton.ca or dropped off at 225 King William Street, Suite 217.                              

2) Short-listed applicants will be informed by phone or email by April 11th, 2016. These applicants MUST attend an interview if they wish to continue with their application. Interviews will be held between March 28th  and April 15th.

3)  Successful candidates will be notified by Friday, April 20th, 2016, to confirm whether they have been accepted.
